Diabetes 2 Diet:

Diet for Persons with Diabetes 2.

This question comes into the mind of patients who are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes: What should be the appropriate diabetes 2 diet on which they should live by?
Type 2 diabetes, also known as Adult Onset Diabetes, is usually triggered by obesity that occurs to a person around 35 to 40 years old.  The best way to fight it is by weight loss, exercise and dietary control.  In some cases, oral medication or insulin injection is required.  But generally, for a person with diabetes 2, proper diet is a necessity if not the only way to lead a long and healthy life.

A person with type 2 diabetes has a body that produces an excess of insulin that tries to control blood sugar.  Since his body doesn’t utilize insulin well, it stores fat and increases obesity.
A diabetes 2 diet must be followed by eating at fixed hours, three proper meals with light snacks in between.  Gap between meals must be short, so do not overeat and eat slow by masticating and munching your food well before you swallow.

Avoid fried food and sweetmeats, fresh vegetable salad in every meal and having at least 20 to 25 grams of raw onion are highly recommended.  To increase fiber in your diet, add equal amount of wheat bran to your wheat flour.  Drink a lot of water to help flush toxins off your system.
While weight loss is required for those who are overweight, a diabetes 2 diet is primarily for maintaining your ideal blood sugar level through the help of a glycemic index.  Glycemic index measures how fast a certain food will raise your blood sugar.
The levels on the glycemic index range from 0 to 100.  These numbers that give a certain food’s glycemic index are based on glucose (given the arbitrary value of 100), which is one of the fastest carbohydrates.
Diet for people with diabetes 2  would regulate food intake of faster carbohydrates (assigned higher numbers) that are useful for raising blood sugar which is needed for brief periods of high activity exercises.  It should be noted that food belonging to this group of high level glycemic value increases your insulin level, thus leaving you hungry.  You might be tempted to cheat on your diet.
On the other hand, slower carbs (assigned the lower numbers) are helpful in preventing overnight drops in blood sugar and is useful for long periods of intense activity.  The food on the lower end of a glycemic index digest more slowly and do not cause rapid changes in your blood sugar level.
It is best to consider though that the impact a food will have on the blood sugar also depends on many factors such as ripeness of fruits or vegetables, cooking time, fiber and fat content, time of day, blood insulin levels, and ones most recent activity.
A regular consultation with your doctor or registered dietitian would help you monitor and check your blood sugar levels and can give expert advice and recommendations on your diabetes 2 diet.  It would be good to keep a record of everything you eat to help your doctor know what works for you well.
