  • Fat – excessive fat intake is definitely bad for anyone, even for non-diabetics.  Staying away from fried foods by taking them out of your menus would be a very good idea.  You must not forget however that you still need a small amount of oil to absorb fat-soluble vitamins like vitamin E.
  • Meat – those who are non-vegetarians my try and totally stop eating red meat.  Try to adopt a vegetarian diet, but if you cannot, it is best to reduce your consumption of chicken and eggs.  Lean fish may however be eaten 2 to 3 times in a week.
  • Whole milk products – switch to low fat milk and yogurt, avoid high fat cheese in favor of low fat cottage cheese.
  • Tea and coffee – try to switch to herbal teas. Have no more than two cups of the conventional tea or decaf everyday.
  • White flour – replace these with whole wheat or soya breads and unpolished rice.
  • Foods with high glycemic index – avoid white rice, potatoes, carrots, breads and bananas as they increase blood sugar levels.
