Be warned that some food packages or frozen diet meals that are advertised as “low calorie”, “lite”, or “fat-free” may prove to be false claims hatched by some unscrupulous marketing minds to generate more sales.
Despite careful food selection and conscientious pre-shopping list preparations, anyone trying to adhere to type 2 diabetes diet plan and type 1 diabetes diet plan, and other considerations may still fall for this kind of unfounded claims that are made by some food producers for pure economic considerations.
There is a trick that would make these claims valid and render these food producers safe from legal responsibilities. Tagging their products as “low calorie”, “lite”, or “fat-free” may hold some truth in the sense that they may actually have lower calorie content compared to other brands selling the same products. However, a closer look at the fine prints below the “low calorie” claim would show that its calorie content would still be much higher than what is nutritionally allowed to diabetics.
Also, be reminded that the problem with prepared frozen diet meals is their usual content of higher amounts of sugar and sodium. These are two of the items in the food list that a diabetic must stay away from.
It should help you to realize that whether you’re a diabetic or not, health experts would always advise you and everybody else to always check and read the nutrition values printed on the labels of foods you buy. This healthy and vigilant habit would also save you from inadvertently cheating on your type 2 diabetes diet plan and type 1 diabetes diet, or any of the healthy eating habit plan.
What one should look for are packages that claim to be frozen without additives or sauces, both intending to serve either as flavoring or as preservatives. When buying frozen fruits, look for the ones with no sugar added.
Speaking of sugar, another trap to look out for are the misleading sugar substitute products. You might like what is printed on the label that claims “0 grams” of sugar in sugar substitutes. This does not always necessarily say that it is good for a diabetic. Sugar substitute can have up to .05 grams per serving and are just considered 0 grams. Some experts also believe that although most sugar substitutes will not cause an insulin response, some would actually do. The insulin response initiated by some sugar substitutes is not through increasing the body’s blood sugar but by increasing the appetite and telling the body to store fat.
Anyone sticking to type 2 diabetes diet plan, type 1 diabetes diet plan, or pre-diabetes diet plan need not be hassled, confused and misled. Vigilance in buying food items by reading the fine prints on the labels would help avoid the traps of false advertising claims.
